In 2017, at the start of my sabbatical from Lehigh University, Opex Partner Ganesh Ramakrishna suggested that I pose a puzzle each week for Opexers (that is, OpexAnalytics employees) to solve in their off-hours. The idea was to come up withpuzzles that make “light” use of math, operations research (OR), probability, logic,computing—any of the quantitative tools that Opexers come equipped with. And the puzzles should be fun: They should feel like an exciting challenge, not like a job.

Hansel González produced all of the illustrations for this book, as well the layout and graphic design, on a very short timeline. His sense of humor and his design style give this book half of its character. I am grateful to him for imbuing the words and math in the puzzles with a stunning visual dimension.
